Hospital Visitations

On a weekly basis or upon request, our staff and other volunteers visit Jewish patients, whether affiliated or not, at the local hospitals, to bring cheer, distribute freshly baked Challah and offer any other assistance that might be needed. Rabbi Ceitlin is currently a registered Chaplain at East Jefferson General Hospital and at Ochsner Medical Center – main campus.

Homebound / Retirement Home Visitations

Our staff and volunteers regularly visit people who are homebound or in retirement homes in the New Orleans area, to bring joy, inspiration and a sense of belonging.

Funerals

Our staff helps bereaved families arrange complete dignified funerals. We also facilitate indigent burials from start to finish at no cost to the family.

Counseling and Crisis Intervention

The process of life includes many types of pressure, strain and difficult experiences. Many people approach one of the 3 rabbis or other staff to work through individual situations, including marital discord, difficulty dealing with their children, loss of jobs, health issues and emotional difficulties. We are there as a support, and when necessary, we help people find suitable professional help.

Chessed Committee

\Through our staff and a broad network of volunteers, Chabad provides fresh cooked meals and support (hands-on as well as financial) for individuals and families who can use a helping hand. This includes new moms and dads, bereaved families, people dealing with illness and families going through unemployment.

As well, international patients of the Ochsner liver/kidney transplant program turn to Chabad for help on a regular basis. These patients often come to New Orleans not knowing English and unable to get around. Volunteers provide meals as needed, visit them throughout their stay, show them around the city, provide rides to supermarkets and help them navigate this trying period of their life.

If you need assistance or would like to help with any of the above programs, please feel free to contact us.
